How to Detox Using the Bentonite Clay
There are actually two ways in using the bentonite clay as a detoxifying agent. One is by taking the bentonite clay internally or you can soak in a clay bath to cleanse the body of the harmful toxins. In reality, there is no scientific evidence that detox programs using clay based ingredients do work. But since clay was used for centuries now in treating many medical conditions, people have thought of using new ingredients that can help in detoxifying their system and body naturally. Taking the bentonite clay internally is not recommended by the FDA or the Food and Drug Administration. So if you decide to take this internally, you better consult your doctor first to be sure and safe.
For internal intake of the bentonite clay, you will need:
- bentonite clay powder
- plastic or glass container with lid
- sesame oil
You may purchase the bentonite clay powder at local health stores or from online shop. Add the bentonite clay powder with water or fruit juice. Shake vigorously until clumps are gone. You may now take the bentonite powder-water mixture after mixing. It this is left unconsumed, you will notice that a lump of clay forms at the bottom of the container making it more difficult to drink. This should be taken on an empty stomach, an hour before meals. This bentonite clay does not have an appealing taste. So it may take a few drinks before you can actually get used with the taste. You can also add honey to the mixture to make the taste more acceptable.
You can take this mixture once daily for three to four days. Increase to twice daily for two weeks. If you are under any medication, it is important to ask your doctor about it first to be sure that it will not have an effect with the medicine that you are taking.
For external take of the bentonite clay:
You will need 2 cups of bentonite clay powder with 10 cups of water. Mix and shake in a large container or gallon jug until clay forms mud like formula. Be sure that clumps have all been broken up. This is better than adding the bentonite clay directly to your bath water because the clay will just settle at the bottom and will become difficult to disperse all throughout the bath. Next, prepare your bath water by having hot water added with the bentonite mixture. Mix the mixture with the water thoroughly. This is now your time to soak in the solution. You may bathe in it for 20 to 30 minutes. If the clay starts to settle at the bottom, move around or mix it again. Make sure that your whole body is submerged in the water. After bathing, rinse off the remaining clay from your body. You may use sesame oil or any lightweight oil to remove the excess clay. Oil will also prevent the skin from drying which may be the effect of the clay on skin.
When you use the bentonite clay mixture for internal use, make sure that you add more water intake as the clay may absorb water quickly and you need to push it with water all through your intestinal tract. And always keep in mind that you still have to consult the doctor whether internal or external use especially if you have existing health problems or under medications.
